Form Follows Content- Five Days
This intensive five-day workshop introduces participants to both traditional and contemporary artist book structures while exploring how book form can support narrative, concept, and material experimentation. Through demonstrations, lectures, hands-on projects, and guided discussions, students will develop technical skills alongside conceptual approaches to bookmaking. Students will leave the workshop with the skills and confidence to develop future artist's books, carrying a project from initial concept through binding selection, material sourcing, and finished construction. The workshop is led by Lisa Hersey of Antler Editions and book artist Maureen Cummins, and is hosted at Antler Editions, a working bindery located in the historic Cottage Street Studios in downtown Easthampton, Massachusetts.
Lisa and Maureen have collaborated on artist's books for the past eight years, bringing together expertise in bookbinding, book arts, and conceptual development. Together, they are excited to foster creativity, experimentation, and collaboration throughout this immersive five-day workshop.
