Workshops

Lisa has been a bookbinder working in the Valley for over ten years. She specializes in creating boxes and enjoys working closely with clients. She was immediately hooked on bookbinding after taking her first class in 2009 at Montserrat College of Art where she received her degree and an award in her concentration. What she loves most about bookbinding is the interaction between viewer and object.

Lisa has been teaching for 5 years and is excited to begin to offer classes directly out of her studio where she feels most at home. Hosting both group and individual classes, Lisa hopes to spread the love of bookbinding to both new comers and those with experience.

Is private instruction right for me?

If you prefer to work one on one with an instructor, or if you have a specific idea for a project you want to create, please inquire about private instruction. This could be great for artists who want to take their prints and put them into a book, a writer who wants to bind their first chapbook, or a skilled binder who wants to learn a new skill one on one.

I was delighted to discover Lisa’s workshops! I’ve already taken two! As someone new to bookbinding, I felt supported by her thorough preparation (all the tools & materials are staged & ready for when we need them!), patience, and feedback. I am so excited by the journals we created, and feel I have the skills I need to do a project on my own at home.

Lisa has a fun and casual style that makes it easy to learn. Her handouts are easy to follow and come in handy when trying the techniques later at home. Whether you’re a beginner or have some experience, you’ll learn a lot from Lisa’s workshop!

As an avid crafter, I participate in a fair number of workshops in the Valley and can honestly say the bookmaking workshop at Antler Editions was one of my favorites. The group was small, allowing for hands-on help and easy access to Lisa’s instruction and advice. And even as a beginner, I left with an actual, beautiful book that I bound myself. I would highly recommend taking workshops at Antler Editions, and have even signed myself up for a second one!

May 11: Zine-Making Collage Workshop in collaboration with Michael Sjostedt

Saturday, May 11 from 10am to 1pm

Attention DIY crafters and 'zinesters! Lisa Hersey of Antler Editions and Michael Sjostedt from Cut Loose Collage Workshops are teaming up to teach a Zine-Making class! Discover how to craft your own one sheet fold-up zines and express yourself with collage, utilizing the zines you create alongside a selection of vintage and repurposed materials! FYI: the zine structure can easily be reproduced at home or your local print shop using regular letter-sized paper. So you can take what you learn in the workshop and run with it!

The workshop offers a unique platform to learn new creative skills, express yourself, and build self-care habits. No prior zine-making experience needed.

$75 per person includes materials and snacks/refreshments.

Workshop is limited to 12 people.

Hosted by Antler Editions, 1 Cottage St. Studio 512, Easthampton, MA
